New York Minute

I made a super-quick trip to my beloved NYC just before Christmas, and it was magnificent as usual….just way too quick. I’m not sure why, but my time there always flies by far too fast…is it something in the water? 😉

I ate at some of my favorite places – WoHop (home of the world’s best dumplings – and a slice of culinary heaven called Honey Crispy Beef, which has to be tasted to be believed…so damn good), Pommes Frites (for poutine!), and a restaurant I’ve never been to before called Spring Street Natural for one of the loveliest meals I’ve ever had (yummmmmmy snapper!)…as well as my old standby Sushi Lounge (the location I used to visit has closed down, causing a near coronary reaction out of me – but thanks to Google I was able to find out that there was another nearby….whew!). I treated myself to the Radio City Christmas Spectacular at Radio City Music Hall, and the whole show was magnificent! I can’t wait to take the Wee One there someday…she hearts the Rockettes! :) I did some last-minute Christmas shopping, lots of walking, visited a couple of outdoor Christmas markets (which were lovely) and enjoyed my visit as much as ever. It just passed way too quickly…isn’t that always the way?  The weather was glorious (in the high 60s! in New York! in December!!! That weather was proof that Mother Nature loooooves me and wants me to be happy!) Here are some highlights of my trip:

The Rockefeller Center tree :)

The Believe-meter at Macy’s on 34th…I believe :)

This was a sticker on a lamp post in New York…I believe that love is truly all around. :)

Come here, lovah…the Dancing Spicy Tuna from Sushi Lounge :) This is what I want for my last meal…and every meal in between now and then. :) (*DISCLAIMER: I hope my last meal is many, many years from now.)

The outdoor Christmas market at Union Square :)

The Wee One and I in ginger format at FAO Schwarz :)

One of the windows at Bergdorf’s…AMAZING!!!! :)

This is my new favorite NYC bar – it’s called Josie’s, and it’s magnificent! It’s in the East Village, they have a pub dog (which is absolutely perfect), and they even serve Molson Canadian (AKA The Nectar of the Northern Gods) ON TAP. I can’t even tell you how bloody perfect this place is – I want to own it. Or be a regular there. Or both. This place is me. I am this place. :) LOVE. :)

Inside the festive window at Josie’s…awesome, eh? :)

The outside window at Josie’s – this place was a huge hit with me, can you tell? :)

A tree at Tiffany’s :)

More Rockefeller Center :)

A sign I saw leaning against an old vintage store – I love this sign. :) Who doesn’t want to hear that they are loved? :)

Spring Roll from Spring Street Natural :)

image

My amazing dinner of pan-seared snapper :)

image

Inside the very cool wine bar YN (get the name?) – cool place, with the most uncomfortable, shitty chairs. The wine was good, though :)

image

I love these iconic NYC coffee cups – I have a ceramic set at home, too :) Coincidentally, this was one of the best cups of coffee I’ve ever had in my life…goodness knows if I will ever find the place I had it again, but in the meantime, I have the memories to keep me company ;)

image

Poutine from Pommes Frites on 2nd Ave….yummy! :)

image

I needed something fancy to wear to the Rockettes show – so I ran in to Joe Fresh and bought this sequined skirt for $11.40 (a bargain!). I wore it on Sunday morning to the show, and decided not to run back and change afterwards, choosing instead to shimmy and sparkle everywhere I went for the whole day. Did I look ridiculous? Absolutely! Did I care? Not one little bit! Yaaa!!! I wore it on Christmas Eve all day, too…I want to wear it every day. Fun Fact – people are much nicer to you if you make your way through the day in a sparkly skirt. You should try it. :)

I saw these two having a bath in the window of a store – love :)

Always time to visit an old friend :)

image

Radio City Music Hall :)

image

The Honey Crispy Beef from WoHop….this is the stuff that dreams are made of, friends….no joke. :)

image

This was written on the wall in the bathroom at my beloved restaurant Sushi Lounge – it says I LOVE LY…my initials. It’s a sign. I wonder if I have a secret admirer out there????! ;)

image

This was also on the wall in the potty at Sushi Lounge – this describes me all the time. :)

As always, I feel like I can be whoever I want to be when I’m in New York, and that the opportunities are endless for me when I’m there…and I miss that feeling. I wish I could bottle it and bring it home with me – do you think it’d work? :) In the meantime, perhaps I’ll make some coffee and put it in my cute NYC mugs…just to relive the memory.  :)
